Clackmannan Band are delighted to announce that Lynda Nicholson has been appointed as conductor for the forthcoming Scottish Championships in March.
Lynda brings a wealth of playing and conducting experience to the band and her appointment signals the start of a new era for the Band. Donald Morrison, Band President said " We are excited to have a conductor of Lynda's calibre and experience taking the band to the Scottish Championships."
Paul McKelvie decided the time was right to move on and has resigned as MD of Clackmannan Band. The Band would like to thank Paul for all his hard work and commitment over the past 3 years and wish him well in the future.
The band had their best result ever at the Scottish Championships in Perth when they came 4th in the Championship Section. The testpiece was St Magnus. The band were conducted by resident conductor Paul McKelvie. This has raised the standing of the band to 81st in the world rankings
At the Fife Open Contest the band won the hymn tune section playing In Perfect Peace. They were also placed 2nd in the testpiece section out of 14 bands for their performance of Paganini Variations
Scottish 1st Section Champions
Playing Mountain Views the band were placed first at the Scottish Championships held in the Rothes Halls, Glenrothes. In the opinion of the adjudicators they were the only band to produce a performance which replicated the intentions of the composer.
The band were conducted by Paul McKelvie. This was his first appearance as a conductor at this contest and all his hard work and rehearsal paid off handsomely.
Congratulations to him and of course to the players in front of him who gave such an inspired and exciting performance.
